AI visibility fundamentals

Understand how websites are discovered and cited, which signals Answer Cloud observes, and how to evaluate changes using separate measures.

Reviewed

Answer Cloud helps you publish a useful public source, make it accessible to retrieval tools, and observe activity on your website. AI visibility includes several different outcomes. Use a separate measurement for each outcome before deciding what to improve.

Understand the discovery path#

An assistant can answer from its existing knowledge, search results, fetched web pages, uploaded files, or connected sources. Your public website is one possible source. Publishing a page does not require an independent service to fetch it, use it, or cite it.

Answer Cloud serves readable website content, generates discovery resources, and provides chat grounded in published pages. A hosted website supplies the complete static site. An existing-site companion supplies content alongside a website that stays on its current host.

Choose the evidence for your question#

Question Evidence Limitation
Did a client request a page? Server or edge request analytics A request does not prove a citation.
Did someone visit from an AI service? Identifiable human referral Some links omit the referring source.
Did a tested answer cite us? A recorded answer test and its links The result describes that test, not all conversations.
What do visitors need? Your site's chat questions These do not expose independent ChatGPT or Claude conversations.
What should we improve? Audit evidence and reviewed recommendations Generated findings require fact checking.

For example, a crawler increase after publishing a guide establishes more observed access during that period. To evaluate citations, run the same defined questions again and record the returned references separately. To evaluate business value, compare relevant visits and outcomes using a consistent attribution method.

Start with a repeatable improvement#

  1. Choose an important customer question and an existing page that should answer it.
  2. Check that the public page works and contains its answer in normal HTML.
  3. Correct missing facts, unclear conditions, and unsupported claims.
  4. Publish through the appropriate source or CMS workflow.
  5. Verify the page and a meaningful on-site chat response.
  6. Review comparable request, referral, and answer-test evidence over time.

Keep the test date, site, question set, provider/product, and settings with each comparison. Changes in models, search behavior, and source availability can affect results independently of your edit.

Continue with your answer engine report, analytics definitions, and content readiness.
