Read the report’s overall services, generative-AI category, and crawl-to-refer measurements as distinct historical results.

Cloudflare’s [2025 Internet Year in Review](https://radar.cloudflare.com/year-in-review/2025) describes activity observed through its network and related measurement sources. Its category charts are useful context, but they do not all measure the same population.

## Keep the categories separate

The generative-AI services ranking is a category ranking, not proof that AI platforms dominate all internet services. The report separately identifies Google as the leader in its overall internet-services ranking and explains that ranking’s aggregate 1.1.1.1 methodology.

## Read crawler measurements narrowly

The report separates verified-bot activity, AI crawl purposes, HTML traffic share, and crawl-to-refer ratios. Use the relevant section and its measurement period rather than moving a percentage from one chart to another.

Crawl-to-refer compares classified HTML requests with detectable HTML referrals. It does not count AI-answer citations or predict a single website’s return on content.

The Similarweb image below is a historical category chart with its own source and methodology. Compare like-for-like measurements before drawing a market-share conclusion.
