There is no basis for saying that every ChatGPT workflow either always uses or never uses sitemap.xml. Search discovery and a user-requested page fetch are different operations, and the available tools can change.
Interpret a conversation test carefully
An assistant’s explanation of its own inaccessible backend behavior is not implementation documentation. A content-type error or failed retrieval shows what happened in that test, not a universal XML limitation. Record the product, settings, prompt, date, URL, and returned result if you want a repeatable experiment.
